Our second stop this summer was the Garda Lake in Italy. We stayed in a little town, called Gargnano which is located on the western border of the lake, for 3 days.
In the last couple of years, we have been to the lake Como and Maggiore which we absolutely loved. So this year we figured it would be a good idea to visit the lake Garda about which I had already heard a lot of good reports.
As you probably read in my last post we made our first stop this summer in Strasbourg. So to get to Gargnano we had to drive 6 hours which is less than if we had been driven from home directly.
The road was very interesting and beautiful as we drove a long time alongside the lake. The streets a little narrow and very curvy but the views fantastic!!! To get to the town where our hotel was we had to drive through small towns on the lake Garda which was amazing. These villages have big promenades and there are a lot of restaurants and cafes where people have fun and relax with the view of the lake and mountains.
In our town, Gargnano, there is a beach – nice swimming in the lake with a fantastic view. But there are big stones which makes swimming not so easy.
On our first day in Gargnano, we drove up the hills for a better view (town Tremosine) which proved to be worth it although the road was very difficult. There was only one lane for two-way traffic. So at one point, there were 20 cars in front of us and behind us and no way to drive past.
The town Gargnano itself is very beautiful, too. Small streets with tiny shops…
On our last day, we rented a boat at the Marina di Bogliaco. This has been the dream of my father for several years now. AND yes, we had a blast! Travelling through the whole lake Garda and seeing every border was possible and easy. If you have the possibility to rent a boat – DO IT! We all were very happy!
So all in all, we really enjoyed our trip to Lago di Garda. A great place for a relaxed vacation in contrast to overfilled holiday spots with beyond beautiful views at the lake and the mountains. A place with a lot of Italians and Germans hahaha…
Obligatory is a car when traveling to the lake as there is nearly no other way of transportation.
The weather in the middle of August was very good, about 28 degrees Celcius, not too hot.
Thanks for reading! Have a good day 🙂
